10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always fun for many of us. But it has to be done. As the winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something within us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve hoarded throughout the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the interior of your house?
The exterior of your home could likely use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Chandler, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris collect during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not cleaned.

Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build their homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t give you too much of a problem, but second and third floor windows can be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting chore, and it will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. Which means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is quick, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not permanently stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive because you’ll still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it’s easy to overlook it during the winter when you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty bad condition the first time you go onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Chandler. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is a great time to pressure clean your roof too, but you’ll need to use a different method than the one you use for most of your home’s exterior.

If you start to see streaks on your roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is usually obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your roof.

The best method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach solution and then leave it be. This solution will kill all organisms on your roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Clean up the Front

The front of your home is likely what most people see, so try to make the best impression possible for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will probably encourage you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean overlooked areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will be spending much more time outside, so spring is a great chance to organize everything you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have a specific place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Taking the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the exterior of your home much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and bushes make a huge impact on the look of your home.

Get rid of weeds near your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up areas where you might be planting in the future and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed killer to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.

Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a detergent or degreaser.

You can probably finish all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call!
